Things I Learned About UCLA from the campus tour today
Residence Hall dining is ranked #1 in the nation. YAY-YUH!
The UCLA Film and Television Archive, the largest university-based archive in the world, has more than 200,000 movies and TV programs -- only the Library of Congress has more
I really really like the campus, with its impressive buildings and its focus on architecture with history (Victor would agree with me)
There are squirrels running about everywhere
If the President ever got hurt west of the Mississippi (even for minor accidents like choking on a pretzel), he would be sent to the UCLA Medical Center over any other hospital in the West
In addition, UCLA researches counsel the White House on health and welfare issues
They film a lot of movies/shows there, including: Old School, Nutty Professor, Legally Blonde, Van Wilder, Alias, American Pie 2, Buffy, and the upcoming film First Daughter
Many famous musicians perform on the stage in the Ackerman Union
Royce Hall is just so darn gorgeous
There is a rivalry between the North Campus "artsy" students (Theater/Music/Social Studies) and the South Campus "nerdy" students (Math & Science)
Their football & basketball teams suck, but all of their other sports teams kick butt (UCLA Gymnastics has won 4 out of the last 5 national championships)
I absolutely love the surrounding areas of UCLA; Westwood, Beverly Hills, *sigh* - as opposed to USC which is located in the ghetto Watts
Many of the most influential and successful people today are UCLA alumnis
Al Gore and Michael Dukakis are joint-speakers in the Public Policy Building
The baseball legend Jackie Robinson is a UCLA alumni
It's staff & faculty consists of 9 Nobel prize winners and many winners of the National Medal of Science
I want to sit under the giant trees next to Royce Hall and read or take a nap
UCLA Medical Center was the first hospital to diagnose the AIDS virus in the nation
UCLA is the only top-ranked school campus founded in the 20th century
There is an "inverted fountain" on campus that becomes the location of many USC vs. UCLA pranks
The UCLA Library is one of the nation's top research universities, with a volume of 7.6 million
There is a sculpture garden on South Campus where dogs always seem to chase the squirrels
UCLA basketball coach Ben Howland (?) was named Coach of the Year and graduated from Cerritos High School! =D
I don't have to bring a printer -- I can print 100 pages of free stuff per quarter in the library
UCLA has 15 libraries - 2 general and 13 specialized
Victor and I discovered that there aren't many hot guys/girls on campus during the weekends (well whadya expect, they have a life!)
The UCLA School of Law is the only public law school in SoCal
There is a restaurant on campus that could totally pass for CPK
There is an eating area nicknamed "The Bomb Shelter" because it's underground
Most students get the 14-premier meal plan, which is 2 meals per day, but if you miss a meal you can carry it over to the next day, so you can have 5 meals on one day
There is a pizza hotline on campus for those poker / movie nights!
Most of the white people at UCLA are probably on the sports teams.
It is definitely the school for me. Now let's hope I'll be able to go there. =D
